The great composer Frederic Chopin once said, “Nothing is more beautiful than a guitar, save perhaps two.” It seems that many people agree with him because the guitar is one of the world’s most popular musical instruments.

The guitar has a long but clouded history. There is some debate about the true origins of the instrument. What is certain is that the name comes from two Sanskrit words: char and tar, which mean “four” and “string”. As the name changed over the years, so did the sound and shape of the guitar until it became the instrument we know and love today.

The electric guitar became popular in the 1950s and 1960s. The guitars are connected to pickups, which translate the movement of the guitar’s strings into electrical signals. In this state, it becomes easy to add effects to the sound. One popular effect is reverb, which adds an echo effect to the music. Nowadays, it is rare to see a new rock or pop band that doesn’t include at least one electric guitar.
